Six kids a dog and a new beginning.

Over a year ago we lived in Northern Utah with an acre some chickens and a rabbit and our dog Oakley and 4 cats.  My husband got a job that moved us closer to family.  We left our chickens and three of our cats and headed south.  We moved into the city we grew up in and bought a fun property with 1.75 acres right next to a mountain.  We thought life is great and we could walk to both parents houses.  After a month the honeymoon period with the house was over.  We just had our sixth child and the kids loved just staying indoors.

The fighting began and the lack of playing outdoors was fully realized.  What did we get into?  We also quickly found that a trail in our backyard was used by all the neighbors.  That wasn't a huge problem, but them telling our kids to get lost was.  We fixed the house up and sold it.  We were so excited to make money off of it.  After 2 months on the market,we sold it for less than we were hoping.  And we were moving into my parent'sts house.

We found a run down 1930's farmhouse and fell in love with the 5.75 acres and quiet surroundings.  Our realtor told us no way should you even consider this place.  We bought it anyway.   This place has been full of crazy ups and super low downs.  When you do an old reno remember it will cost twice as much and take up twice as much time.

We had to get rid of our dog as she was bugging my parent's neighbors.  We have a new rabbit as our old one died at the "Hill House".  And our mama cat had disappeared.  New beginnings were in order!

First off we found out that there was zero water in the house hooked up.  All the water was found in the well.  And the farmer tried hard to convince us that it was a pathetic well.  We learned quickly that A. clean water is a huge blessing even if we have to carry it in.  and B. That the Farmer would be a fun source to deal with.

During the first couple of months, our one-year-old had to stay in a pack in play.  The house was so filthy and unsafe that she needed to be contained.  The kids watched so many movies on our Amazon small DVD player.  Sorry to all the doctors, but over two hours was needed for serious progress.

With our stuff filling three storage containers we started ripping out carpet, taring down walls, painting, and painting to get the cigaret smell and old home smell out.  Patching all the cracks on the outside of the home and replacing all the broken windows.  Yes, our home could have passed as a haunted house!

Looking at the home now it's easy to forget all we have done.  As it's so easy to focus on all we have ahead.  Welcome to our journey of fixing up a home that should have to most people been torn down.  Welcome to our learning and growing.  Welcome to our 1930's farm home.
                                                                 The Hill House.

                                                            Our 1930's Farmhouse

Our amazing land and blank slate!

Singles and windows had to be replaced for insurance.
And lots of patching, weeks of patching.

The patching on the front of the house.

The two oldest boys were so excited to tear walls down!

Goodbye old kitchen and hello possibility!

The second storage unit empty!  Yay!

My hubby fixing the floor.  Looked like a burial plot to me.
Honey, what were you really doing while I was gone?

After Demo comes the cleanup crew.
Thank heavens for huge rental dumpsters.

A sanity break with the kids to Arches for a day.
You go two days before fall break and it's empty.

                                                           The Marc's fixing the roof.
The new paint on the house and new windows!

The front room was the first room finished.
The baby was happy to have one room to walk in.
And if needed be in her pack and play to stay safe.
